The solution:

Go to your Control Panel.

>Click “Hardware and Sound”

>Click “Sound”

>Click “Speakers” and properties and the lower right

>Click the tab “Enhancements” and click the empty box next to “Disable all enhancements” and then click OK.

Problem solved. Don’t you love the internet?

I also wonder if there isn’t a better way for me to maintain those configurations and lock in a price. I worked out a great price on a Studio 17 with everything I wanted for what seemed like a steal. It was around $825, but I can’t figure out how I did it. Certainly it was a sale, but where did it go?

I wonder if Dell ever tested exit pop-ups that asked you to email your configuration. Then if you don’t came back for a few days Dell may offer an incentive to buy. GoDaddy does this all the time and it works. I just know there has to be a better way.

By the way, it would be really great to get some definitions on computers. So when you are looking at the Dell laptops it’d be great to know the differences between all the brands. Good, better, best just doesn’t do it. I know the difference between a Prius and a Lexus, but not a Studio or a Vostro. I know the XPS is high end, but why? What is so high end? Why should I have to go to other websites on Dell laptops to understand Dell’s own laptops. Value and style, design and performance? That isn’t a fundamental thing I can wrap my brain around. It’s fluff. Give me something I can sink my teeth into. You know, like this computer has cheap plastic and this one has aluminum. Or this has really crap speakers, but this one will vibrate your seat.
